Welcome!

Hello, my name is David Grindley and I am delighted to be the new Chief Executive of Screen Craft Rights. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. My email address is: [email protected]

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting  was held on Thursday 21st March 2024 at 7.00pm. A Special Resolution was unanimously passed and Screen Craft Rights Articles of Association have subsequently been amended and lodged with Companies House.

Board Election – Uncontested Election

The Board of Directors of Screen Craft Rights currently has 8 elected Members (2 representing each category of Membership: Cinematography, Editing, Production Design and Costume Design) and two Non-Members, appointed by the Board, who offer knowledge and experience in a particular area of the organisation’s work

Directors are elected for a four-year term, with one Member in each category standing down, or putting themselves forward for re-election, every two years. This year John Daly (representing Cinematography), Derek Bain (Editing), Tim Hutchinson (Production Design) and Sammy Sheldon Differ (Costume Design) had to resign or stand for re-election. Derek Bain and Tim Hutchinson decided to stand down. John Daly and Sammy Sheldon Differ decided to stand again.

The details of the Board Election and a copy of the Nomination Form were sent to the email addresses of Full Members on Wednesday 31st January 2024. Those Full Members without email addresses were sent the information by post.

Following the closure of nominations for election to the Board of Screen Craft Rights on Wednesday 21st February 2024, every candidate stood unopposed.

Therefore, joining Sammy Sheldon Differ (Costume Design) and John Daly (Cinematography) on the Board are Andrew McAlpine (Production Design) and Mark Everson (Editing). Their term started at the AGM on Thursday 21st March 2024.

Although there has been no formal election, please see below each candidate’s statements in support of their candidacy:

Andrew McAlpine – Production Design

As a recipient of Screen Craft Rights pay-outs, I believe I am well equipped to assist in helping guide the organisation into a healthy future.

Our industry is heading into some of the biggest changes in all Departments. The Art Department is no exception. I want to see full recognition and respect for our work.

Mark Everson – Editing

I’ve become slightly obsessed with tracking down people owed money by SCR, so would love to get officially involved with helping this organisation. I’m an editor with 27 years experience in a variety of genres.

Sammy Sheldon Differ – Costume Design

I have been a member of the Board of Directors since 2015 and have very much enjoyed seeing the growth of our community and collections over the years under the helm of the amazing Suzan Dormer. As we move forward with our new Chief Executive, David Grindley, into the ever-changing world of Film and TV, I would very much like to continue my support of our artistic rights and to support David in the many aspects of his role. I am passionate that our work on screen is recognised, and as a Board we can push forward with new membership to continue the work of getting our artistic contributions valued.

John Daly – Cinematography

As a Board Member of the Governors of the BSC, I was one of the founding members of Screen Craft Rights in 2011. Since then, I have served on the Board of Screen Craft Rights representing the rights of Cinematographers and supporting Suzan Dormer.  If re-elected I will continue to do so and look forward to working with our new Chief Executive, David Grindley.

Suzan Dormer Celebration – Saturday 23rd March 2024

The Board and Members of Screen Craft Rights celebrated Suzan’s invaluable contribution to Screen Craft Rights over the last twelve years. The event was held at Mortimer House, 37-41 Mortimer St, London W1T 3JH. It was a wonderful evening. Suzan was delighted to see all the Members who attended, most of whom she was meeting for the first time. Speeches were given by Screen Craft Rights’ Chair, Humphrey Dixon, Board Member, Martin Spence, and our Legal Adviser, Professor Amanda Harcourt. Suzan thanked the assembled company. Photographs of the event will be posted in due course and a Commemorative Book featuring photos from the evening, messages from those who attended and those who were unable to, as well as assorted imagery from her time with Screen Craft Rights is in preparation.
